LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Two men are dead after a FedEx semi crashed on a highway ramp early Thursday morning in Louisville, according to Louisville Metro Police.
LMPD said officers were called to the southbound Interstate 65 ramp to eastbound Interstate 264 just after 5 a.m. on reports of a single-vehicle crash involving a FedEx tractor-trailer.
The preliminary investigation found the semi was traveling northbound on the ramp to I-264 East when it failed to negotiate a curve. Police said the truck left the left shoulder of the ramp, crossed into the southbound I-65 ramp to I-264 East and slammed head-on into a rock wall.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. In the initial release on the crash, police said first responders were checking the wreckage to determine whether a second occupant was inside the cab. Shortly after, it was confirmed another man was inside and was also pronounced dead at the scene.
LMPD's Traffic Unit is leading the investigation into what caused the crash.
Police said the affected ramps will remain closed for approximately two to three hours while investigators process the scene and crews clear the wreckage. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
