LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A person has died after a single-vehicle crash in New Albany, Indiana, on Sunday evening.
New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey said officers responded to the 3700 block of Klerner Lane on a reported crash just before 8 p.m.
Police found a vehicle that had been flipped upside down. Police said the only occupant, the driver, was pronounced deceased on the scene. He was identified Monday as 24-year-old Gavin Byrd of New Albany.
"A preliminary investigation into the incident has determined excessive speed is likely a factor," Bailey said.
The vehicle was traveling northbound, left the roadway and struck mailboxes and vegetation, according to police.
Bailey said Monday the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
