LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Nature Center is celebrating the return of one of its missing turtles.
Chocolate, a male box turtle, was taken last weekend from his enclosure, along with another turtle named Jack. Chocolate was returned to the nature center Friday morning.
Workers at the center were particularly worried about Chocolate because he cannot fully retract into his shell and would not survive in the wild or without proper care.
"One maybe two or three bad people decided to steal our turtles, but we had over 8,200 shares on social media of people that wanted to help us," said Rebecca Minnick, executive director of the Louisville Nature Center. "To me, I just wanted to think about that and think about the people that care and that really meant a lot to us."
The center has a box outside its door where the turtles can be returned.Â
