2 in custody after pursuit through Kentucky and Indiana that closed interstate

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two people were arrested Wednesday morning in Jeffersonville, Indiana, after leading police on a chase through Indiana and Kentucky and back again.

Jeffersonville police officers tried to pull over a vehicle around 11:20 a.m. after Flock cameras identified it as a vehicle that was wanted in connection with a previous kidnapping case. But the driver refused to stop, according to Jeffersonville Assistant Police Chief Michael "Scott" McVoy.

A news release from Jeffersonville Police said officers tried to stop the vehicle with three people inside at Frederick and Main streets, but it took off as officers approached.

Officers pursued the vehicle through the west district of Jeffersonville, into Louisville, as it travelled west on Interstate 64 to the Shawnee Expressway and exited at Virginia Avenue. That's when a rear passenger ran from the vehicle near 28th and Dumesnil streets.

The vehicle continued west into downtown Louisville, according to the release.

Louisville Metro Police spokesperson John Bradley said a pedestrian was hit by the fleeing vehicle at Broadway and 10th Street. Bradley said the pedestrian's injuries were not life-threatening. Broadway was temporarily closed from 9th to 11th streets while LMPD officers investigated.

The vehicle continued to flee police, returning to Jeffersonville using the 2nd Street bridge, then headed south again with police in pursuit. Police deployed stop near the Stansifer Avenue exit on Interstate 65 South. Indiana State Police were also involved in the chase, and used a PIT (Precision Immobilization Technique) maneuver to bring the vehicle to a halt.

WDRB crews saw at least one suspect with hands raised being taken into custody at gunpoint just before noon. A passenger in the vehicle was also arrested.

Jeffersonville investigators have identified the driver as Chad Allen Devore and Brooke Lescallett, who was wanted for felony kidnapping. Police said there was a brief standoff where Devore and Lescallet "attempted to cause themselves self-harm by cutting themselves prior to being detained."

They received first-aid at the scene before being taken to Norton Clark Hospital. Both face several charges.

Part of I-65 South was briefly shut down while police arrested the suspects.

Several police agencies were involved in the chase, including LMPD, Clarksville Police, and the Clark County sheriff.
