LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Cars lined the streets around Algonquin Park for opening weekend of the neighborhood's new public pool.

The Algonquin Park Pool was redone after falling into disrepair in 2023It's the first new public pool to open in west Louisville since the previous Algonquin Pool was built in the 1960s.

From the family slide to the lily pad bridge, people of all ages used Memorial Day weekend to take advantage of the new Algonquin Park Pool.

"We have this whole neighborhood around us and that they're able to come out their front door, walk across the street, pay their money and swim," said Robin Alexander, who is a swim instructor at the new pool.

Alexander said she wants everyone to have access to a place like this.

"They're not driving out to the fairgrounds, they're not driving out downtown to the Waterfront, which is all nice, but accessibility for those that don't have transportation like that," said Alexander.

Detrick Davis lives just down the road from the pool. He said he's happy to see the city buying into his neighborhood.

"They don't want us to have to travel far to have a good time and it feels like we're finally being seen and being heard," said Davis.

After two years of not having a pool, Alexander is optimistic this will be good for the entire community.

"It's just a wonderful euphoric feeling and we hope that it continues throughout the summer," said Alexander.

The pool will be open every day except Tuesdays from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is $2 for kids 12 and under, and $3 for everyone else.
