LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS chief has retired after 27 years of service.

Chief Kevin Groody announced his retirement on Sunday.

Groody began his service in Jan. 1976 with the American Hose Company in Ashland, Pennsylvania. He later joined the Worthington Fire Department in 1997 and was promoted to major in 2005.

Groody graduated from the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer's Program in 2013. He became interim fire chief in Oct. 2012. He secured the position permanently a few months later.

After Worthington Fire Department merged with Anchorage Middletown Fire in 2019, Groody served as the executive assistant chief. He was promoted to fire chief in 2020.
