LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new $9.1 million technology and learning center aimed at expanding job training and opportunity has opened in West Louisville.
The nonprofit AMPED — short for Adventurous Minds Produce Extraordinary Dreams — opened its Tech and Learning Center at 1701 W. Market St. on Nov. 20, according to our partners at Louisville Business First.
The three-story facility will serve as a hub for technology training, workforce development and business creation.
AMPED was founded in 2014 as a free, two-week music camp. The center also houses the Play Cousins Collective child care program and the MELANnaire Marketplace, which supports Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs.
Founder and President Dave Christopher told Louisville Business First the finished space exceeded his expectations.
“I had an idea, but it never connects to the energy you feel when you get into it,” Christopher said. “Sometimes I walk through and think, ‘That’s cool.’”
The new center sits on the border of the Portland and Russell neighborhoods, an area that has seen increased development in recent years.
