LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville-based Brown-Forman announced it is suspending production at a Scottish distillery.Â
According to our partners at Business First, Brown-Forman has temporarily suspended production at its Glenglassaugh Distillery. The distillery in Northeast Scotland makes single malt Scotch.
The temporary suspension of the Scottish distillery comes after Brown-Forman announced earlier this month a corporate restructuring and cutting its global workforce by 12%.Â
A representative from the company told Business First less than five employees were laid off at the Glenglassaugh Distillery, and that the company is "implementing a shared production model with Benriach," a nearby Distillery that's only 27 miles from Glenglassaugh. The implementation allows the company to "optimize resources and expertise across both distilleries."
In last quarter earnings report, Brown-Forman's Scotch sales were down 22% from a year before.Â
