LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Better Business Bureau is warning people on a frightening scam that's different from so many others because the scammers know where you work.

Imagine this scenario - you start a new job and just days into it, your boss asks you to run a few errands for him.

That happened to one woman, who had just recently started a new remote work position. A couple days into the job, she received a text message from a number she didn't know and she didn't have her new bosses number in her phone.

The message claimed to be her boss asking her to go get some gift cards for him because he was in a meeting, which her real boss was at the time, so she wasn't suspicious.

The woman was reluctant to the question and went to a nearby Staples, purchasing three $100 Google gift cards. She scratched off all three of them to reveal the codes and sent pictures of them to her "boss."

It was not long after that that she realized that she was being scammed.

It's called the "Boss Text Scam," and the BBB said scammers are finding your information on Facebook, LinkedIn, and other sites.

In conclusion, never reply to any text message or email from your employer asking you to do something unusual, until you verify.
