LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Many of us have so much stuff, or are in the process of moving, that we need to rent a storage unit.
Unfortunately, mold and mice have become a real problem, especially during the cold winter months.
Storage units are great to get all your clutter out of the way. But before you put any of your valuables in one, you need to verify their policy on fire, insect, and rodent damage.
There are ways in protecting yourself if you already have a storage unit and are worried about your belongings.
Purchase insurance for your unit from the facility or your own insurer, that way you know you have a little bit of a covering in case something happens.
Never store food of any kind or collectibles that cannot be replaced, and know that your homeowners or renters insurance may not automatically cover your unit.
