LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- So many things used to be free, or almost free, now cost real money.
It's a trend that's growing, as many companies are looking for more ways to make money.
Facebook used to say it was free and always will be, but recently, Facebook's Meta just launched a paid premium version in Europe that includes no ads. It may soon roll out in the U.S.
The blue checkmark on X has been free for years. Now, it costs $8 a month.
The new trend is called "premiumization."
If higher prices are frustrating enough, now you have to contend with even higher prices due to all the new, enhanced versions of your favorite products.
Once a company goes premium and shoppers are buying it, there is little reason for them to ever go back.
Don't feel pressured to pay for something you have been getting for free. As long as there's a free version, stick with it!
