LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Are you getting ready to take a trip? Be prepared to pay more for your flight.
American Airlines recently announced they will be charging more for baggage fees, and that may be just the tip of the iceberg.
For a checked bag now, it is $35 instead of $30 if you purchase in advance.
At the gate, the price is $40.
Delta and United remain at $30 for now, while Southwest still allows two checked bags for free.
Baggage fees are just one extra fee travelers have to face these days.
Nerdwallet says seat selection fees are now as high as $20 on Frontier and Spirit.
With other carriers, such as Delta and American, you may have to pay for a window or aisle seat.
Analysts are saying it's just a matter of time before airlines play follow the leader and raise their baggage fees to match.
So, how can you avoid these fees?
Nerdwallet says look for an airline credit card that gives you one free checked bag. The perks as nice, and you can also collect airline miles to be used for upcoming trips.
If you're traveling alone, wait until check-in time to get your seat and there won't be an extra fee.
Bottom line is pack light if you can and always check baggage fees before clicking the "buy" button, that way you don't waste your money.
