LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A new Southern takeout kitchen is now open in Louisville's Audubon neighborhood, according to our partners at Louisville Business First.
Grit & Griddle opened March 19 at 905 Hess Lane, right next to Pop's Comics and Collectibles.
The takeout-only restaurant has a Southern comfort menu with dishes like fried fish, rolled oysters, spaghetti and wings. Prices range from $3 to $19.
Husband-and-wife duo Al Cook and LaToya Cook‑Bradley said the restaurant is replacing their former Brew and Sip Coffee Bar and Roastery at 2860 Parkland Way, which closed in October.
“We downsized to this and we just do catering, and Grit & Griddle out of here,” Cook‑Bradley said. “It’s a really nice space because it’s on the interstate, so you can pick up food and get anywhere you need to go."
Cook-Bradley and Cook are seasoned business owners. The pair opened Brew & Sip Coffee Bar in October 2020 on Shepherdsville Road, later adding a second location on West Broadway in 2022. Both have since closed.
They reopened in 2024 with a new Brew & Sip Coffee Bar and Roastery on Parkerland Way, but later shut it down after becoming full-time caregivers for Cook’s parents.
In November, the couple launched Brew & Sip Express inside the $45 million Gateway on Broadway development in West Louisville.
Cook-Bradley will now focus on Brew & Sip Express and the upcoming HeBrew Family Market Place at Gateway on Broadway, while Cook handles daily operations at Grit & Griddle.
“We’ve always done everything together as a unit,” Cook said. “So there’s not a main driver — it’s a partnership.”
The couple expects Grit & Griddle to thrive with its takeout-only model and lower overhead, especially in a more visible location.
“Everybody’s going back smaller because restaurants are hard,” Cook-Bradley said.
Grit & Griddle is currently open Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
