LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — An east Louisville fish market is expanding to the Highlands and St. Matthews neighborhoods.
The Middletown Highland Fish Market recently bought Lori's Fish Market at 3941 Chenoweth Square from Doug and Lori Elder, according to our partners at Louisville Business First.
Previously, the Lori's Fish Market location had been a Highland Fish Market. Matt Bedingfield, co-owner of Highland Fish Market, said the location will continue to operate as Lori's Fish Market, and Lori Elder will help out at the shop for some time.
“The businesses used to be connected, so it just made sense to reconnect them," Bedingfield told Louisville Business First. "Lori’s always done a lot for the community. Her customers are very loyal to her, so we want to make sure that we continue that.”
Another Highland Fish Market location will open at 1745 Bardstown Road in the Highlands. The 1,300-square-foot space will bring the concept back to its origins, something Mark and Ashley Bedingfield have wanted to do.
“There was an original Highland Fish Market back in the 50s. We didn't know about it until we saw a picture of it in Bonnycastle Appliances, but I believe it was in this (Shops of Deer Park) building," said Bedingfield, who, along with his wife Ashley and their friends Mark and Sarah Hart, bought Highland Fish Market in June 2023.
The Bardstown Road location is expected to open in April after being renovated.
Gary and Julia Hirsch first founded The Highland Fish Market in 1995, located on Bardstown Road across from the Highlands Kroger.
