LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Beyond the Sun Restaurant & Lounge held its grand opening Wednesday in a long-vacant building in the heart of Louisville's Cherokee Triangle neighborhood.

Owners of the new restaurant transformed the building at 1023 Bardstown Road that most recently housed Mellow Mushroom before it closed in January 2019. It's a popular stretch of Louisville that has seen numerous businesses closings, the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors playing a major role.

Beyond the Sun features a first-floor restaurant, with steak, seafood, pasta, and other dishes on the menu. It also has a second-floor "lounge bar." Its website touts a wide selection of bourbon, tequila, cocktails and more and advertises nightly live music.

The restaurant is owned by the same group that owns Sol Aztecas, also on Bardstown Road.

"This is why it's called Beyond the Sun, because it all started with Sol Aztecas, Sol means sun in Spanish, and this is beyond that," Anna Medina said.

Beyond the Sun will be open daily from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.
