LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Frazier History Museum hosted a community update and listening session Tuesday evening on Norton West Louisville Hospital.
The session gave residents a chance to find out what's been happening at the hospital in the eight months it has been open, as well as provide feedback.
The hospital at 28th and Broadway, which opened in November 2024, is the first hospital built west of Ninth Street in more than 150 years. It has a 24/7 emergency department, operating rooms and 20 inpatient rooms. It also offers primary care, outpatient, specialty services, a retail pharmacy and imaging, including X-ray, CT and MRI.
Outpatient offices include adult and pediatric care, along with women's services including obstetrics and gynecology. There's also cardiology, orthopedics, diabetes care and behavioral health services. The hospital has a community room and a food pantry.Â
While the hospital hasn't even been open for a full year, it has already made a big impact on the community it serves.
"So far, within eight months, we've seen well over 12,000 emergency room visits, we've been able to convert, or see, a lot of those people from the emergency room to primary care visits. So we're well over 2,500 primary care visits, including pediatric or, children visits," Corenza Townsend, chief administrative officer for Norton
Norton Healthcare said these numbers are especially important for west Louisville, where residents have a life expectancy 10 to 15 years shorter than residents in other portions of Jefferson County.
