LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Norton West Louisville Hospital celebrated another milestone Wednesday.

The hospital at 28th and Broadway recently completed its 100th procedure just two months after it opened in Nov. 2024.

Norton Healthcare said the most common procedure has been a colonoscopy, which allows doctors to examine the colon and rectum for signs of cancer and other issues. 

African Americans are about 20% more likely to get colorectal cancer and about 40% more likely to die from it than most other groups, according to the American Cancer Society. 

Norton Healthcare previously said the life expectancy for someone living in west Louisville is 10-15 years shorter than other Jefferson County residents.

"It's really been a great experience," said Dr. Stephen Kelty, head of surgery at Norton West Louisville Hospital. "I think this is a good fit, that the other providers that work here are all just really engaged and committed to helping the people in this area."

The new hospital is the first hospital built west of 9th Street in more than 150 years. The new facility features a 24/7 emergency department, operating rooms and 20 inpatient beds. It will also offer primary care, outpatient, specialty services, a retail pharmacy and imaging, including X-ray, CT and MRI.

Outpatient offices include adult and pediatric care, along with women's services including obstetrics and gynecology. There's also cardiology, orthopedics, diabetes care and behavioral health services. The hospital has a community room and a food pantry.
