LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Another Kentucky distillery is laying off some of its workforce.
Green River Distilling Company in Owensboro, announced it will cut 26 jobs — about 30% of its workforce — according to our partners at Louisville Business First.
The layoffs will start April 1. Most of the effected jobs are in production as the distillery moves to a single production shift.
"This decision was not made lightly, and we are confident that these steps will help us navigate current industry challenges while building a stronger foundation for the future," Green River Distilling said in a statement.
Since January, layoffs have halted production and production closures have plagued Kentucky's distilling industry. Big names like Brown-Forman, announced in January the closure of its Louisville barrel-making operation by April 25, 2025.
A company representative told Louisville Business First that the layoffs are due to declining sales of some of the nondistilling producers (NDPs) that Green River produces, and not due to the recent tariffs imposed on the bourbon industry.

Green River Distilling Company is building a tasting room on Whiskey Row in downtown Louisville, as reported by WDRB last October, and is supposed to be completed by mid-2025.
