LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A former downtown Louisville pawn shop is getting a facelift.
The old Stewart's Pawn Shop on West Jefferson Street is being renovated into three separate retail spaces, our partners at Louisville Business First reported, citing a permit filed with Louisville Metro Planning and Design.
Jhoolay Lal Properties bought the property last year for nearly $1.13 million. The developer said the spaces will be ideal for a restaurant, food mart or other retailers.
Construction on the 68,000-square-foot space is expected to cost $200,000, with work expected to begin next month and finished in April or May. The developer said the total cost depends on the final scope of the renovations needed.
The building, which is just a block away from the Kentucky International Convention Center, was put on the market in 2023 for $1.35 million after the owners of Stewart's Pawn Shop consolidated operations into its West Broadway location.
