LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new Middle Eastern restaurant, Shawarma Shack, is preparing to open in mid-November at 4600 Shelbyville Road in the Shelbyville Road Plaza.
Co-owner Yazan Rababah said the St. Matthews location will be the first of three planned spots for the growing brand, according to our partners at Louisville Business First.
He and partner Walid Adi, who also owns West Louisville’s Shorty’s convenience store, plan to turn Shawarma Shack into a franchise with a consistent theme.
The restaurant will let customers build their own meals along the line, similar to popular fast-casual chains, and aims to showcase authentic Arab cuisine.
"We’ll serve fresh kunafa and other traditional dishes that give people the real taste of our cuisine," Rababah told LBF.
Shawarma Shack will occupy roughly 1,300 square feet and employ about a dozen staff members. Rababah and Adi are investing around $400,000 in the project.
The new spot will join other upcoming tenants in the plaza, including Dave’s Hot Chicken, which is opening in a space formerly home to Blaze Pizza.
