LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A worker-owned coffee shop in Old Louisville is closing its doors.

The Old Louisville Coffee Co-op announced Monday it would be closing in March after nearly four years in business.

"It is with a deeply heavy heart that we share that after almost four years of operation, we have made the decision to close our doors," the shop said in a post on Facebook. "This decision was not made lightly, and though we are sad to see this chapter come to an end, we have collectively decided to end on a high note."

The coffee shop opened with a focus on diversity, sustainability and community, with the goal of creating an inclusive community environment for all. The owners said Monday they've been proud to serve the community.

"We believe we and the community are forever changed for the better because of the co-ops' existence," the Facebook post continued, in part.

In addition to serving up coffee, the co-op has also served as a community space for the neighborhood, hosting events, meet-ups, study sessions, open mic nights and more. According to the co-op's Facebook page, it also houses a community pantry stocked with items to help neighbors in need.

"While we are saddened by the closure of Old Louisville Coffee Co-op, we are eternally thankful for the memories, relationships, and experiences we have gained throughout the years. We will cherish these as we move forward," the post concluded.

No reason was given for the closure.

The coffee co-op's last day is March 22.
