LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky's new vehicle information system is causing some local car dealers major problems.

Some car dealers came to Frankfort Thursday and held a protest outside the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. They said since the change, they’re losing customers and thousands of dollars in revenue.

The group is made up of more than 20 Louisville car dealers who are usually competitors.

”So it's really a disaster," Blerim Begiri said.

On Thursday, an ongoing common problem brought them all to Frankfort. They said it's the system change that began in January that went from AVIS to KAVIS.

They said the Kentucky Automated Vehicle Information System (KAVIS) causes major delays with car titles.

"Since January 2024 a lot of issues when it's coming in with the titles and paperwork we cannot process the paperwork due to the PVA, they had this new system," Begiri said.

"For Jefferson County it's a disaster," Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw said.

Holsclaw showed WDRB an example of how bad the problem is and said before the change, there was a 24 to 48 hour turnaround for car dealers.

"Now, as you can see, these dealers are having to wait two, three, four weeks to get their work done and it's way too long for these dealers and they're losing money," Holsclaw said.

"In my opinion, they're going to have to go back to day one and from the bottom up to correct this KAVIS System," Holsclaw said.

”We can't take it any longer," Maiyany Roque said. "They're not they're not answering our calls. They're not communicating with us.”

The dealers said they've had to make tough decisions and it could get worse.

So far, no one from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has talked to the dealers in person so, they say they’ll do this again if needed.
