CHARLESTOWN, Ind. (WDRB) -- A new parkway in southern Indiana is being called a "gateway to opportunity."
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday morning for Cristiani Parkway, at State Road 62, in Charlestown.
The four-lane parkway is named after Dan Cristiani Excavating, which is located nearby. Its namesake was on hand Tuesday morning, and christened the road with a ceremonial drive (and tread marks) in his Chevelle.Â
Cristiani Parkway connects to the River Ridge Development Authority on one side, and the Shadow Lake Business Park on the other. It also allows access to the Charlestown Industrial Park.
"It's been a long time coming, but we're here," Cristiani said. "And you know what, y'all haven't seen anything yet. Wait until we get done. We're not giving up with just this road."
The parkway has been in the works for over three years.
City officials said the parkway also includes a new, safer turning light at the intersection at Highway 62 turning into the River Ridge Commerce Center.
A closure of the Pike Street and Highway 62 intersection is on tap next as part of long-term plans to connect the highway to County Road 403 via Cristiani Parkway, officials said.
