LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new director has been chosen to lead the Louisville Free Public Library system.

Mayor Craig Greenberg named Heather Lowe as the new executive director for the LFPL.

Lowe, who most recently led the Dallas Public Library as interim director, will bring more than 16 years of library experience to the role.

"I'm honored to join a community that values its library and a talented library team so passionate about serving the community," Lowe said in a news release Monday. "Together, we will strengthen Louisville Free Public Library's legacy of providing access, learning, and connection for every Louisvillian."

Lowe will step into the role Nov. 10, replacing Barbara Sexton Smith, who has led the library system as interim director since June following Lee Burchfield's retirement after 28 years with the LFPL.
