LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Construction is expected to ramp up this week along River Road as the Louisville Water Company project continues.
Officials said crews will be working on the Transylvania Avenue area, near the intersection with River Road, this week.
A temporary gravel access road off Mayfair Avenue will allow residents to access this area. Crews will also be restoring and paving River Road between Boxhill and Lime Kiln lanes.
Crews are currently working in Zone 2 of River Road—which runs between Blankenbaker Lane and Lime Kiln Lane—but are taking a break from pipe work during August.
Work in Zone 2 of the project began in late March/early April and is expected to last three to six months.
The work is part of a two-year construction project for Louisville Water to replace an aging residual water line along the road from the water tower to its treatment plant in Prospect. The work spans from Zorn Avenue to the plant in Prospect.
In ideal weather conditions, the company aims to lay about 200 feet of pipe per day. As of Monday, officials report 50% of the new pipe has been installed.
Crews aim to finish most of the work on River Road by next summer.
During Zone 2 work, drivers are encouraged to use Blankenbaker Lane to access the following areas:
- Knights of Columbus
- Rivers Edge Road
- Waterglen Place
- Longview Lane
- Boxhill Lane
- Woodside Road
- Rockledge Drive
- Glenview Avenue
Lime Kiln Lane can be used to access:
- Virginia Chance School
- Eifler Beach Road
