LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Elizabethtown police credit technology for helping track down a man who allegedly fired a gun downtown Sunday morning.
According to a news release Monday from Officer John Thomas with Elizabethtown Police Department, officers were called after 9 a.m. Sunday to follow up on a "shots fired" call overnight near the Cherry Alley parking lot off North Main Street. The original call came in about 3:30 a.m. on a report of multiple gunshots in the area, but responding officers didn't find anything.
On the second run to the location, officers were able to recover 13 spent shell casings and several open containers of alcoholic beverages near the scene. No injuries or property damage were reported.
Thomas said security camera footage provided by a citizen showed a gray Chevrolet Impala in the lot around the time of the incident. The video appeared to capture muzzle flashes and a person shooting a handgun into the air before driving southbound on to North Main Street. City surveillance cameras and a new EPD security trailer also recorded the sound of 13 shots.
Police said the city's FLOCK camera system helped officers track down a gray 2017 Chevrolet Impala with Texas registration. About 4 p.m. Sunday, FLOCK alerts helped locate the car in the parking lot of the Target on Ring Road. The driver, Deadrick Jackson, 30, of Elizabethtown, was taken into custody. A search of Jackson's car turned up a Glock 10mm handgun with a 15-round capacity magazine with one live round beneath the driver’s seat.
Jackson was arrested and charged with two counts of first degree wanton endangerment. He's being held on a $10,000 bond.
