LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police in Hillview are investigating after an 18-year-old man was found shot to death early Thursday morning.

The crime scene is located at the intersection of Hillview Boulevard and Norwood Way, according to a news release from Hillview Police spokesperson Lt. Wyatt Rossell. Police said they will likely be at that location for several hours as the investigation continues.

Rossell said the victim had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene. He said someone driving through the area reported finding the body to police around 2 a.m. after first thinking it was a Halloween decoration.

Neighbors told police they thought they heard gunshots around that time. No one has been arrested yet, but police said it appears to be "an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community."

Rossell said he believes this is the second homicide in 50 years within the Hillview city limits.

Ashley Beck, who said she's lived in Norwood for 36 years., said she woke up Thursday morning to find the street filled with police lights. She said her husband heard the gunshots but mistook them for fireworks.

"There has never been anything like this that happened around here, nothing to this extent, especially," Beck said.

Rossell said all necessary steps are being taken to "resolve this case promptly. Additional resources have been allocated to ensure a thorough investigation."

Detectives have been knocking on doors and talking to neighbors as the investigation continues, and shell casings were found at the scene. The Louisville Metro Police Department and other nearby agencies have reached out to offer help, Rossell said.
