LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — An Indiana man was sentenced Thursday in an attempted murder case last year in Jefferson County.
Mark N. Swafford, 44, of Cross Plains, Indiana, was sentenced to 40 years in prison, according to a news release. He will serve 35 years with 5 years of probation.
Swafford was convicted of attempted murder for shooting his daughter's boyfriend in the back of the neck in Madison, Indiana on Jan. 6, 2024.
Police determined Swafford was intoxicated when he went to the victim's home and started an argument, which quickly turned violent. Police said Swafford pushed the victim down, pulled out a gun from his waistband and shot the victim, all unfolding in front of his daughter and 7-month-old grandchild.
Swafford fled the scene after the shooting, leading police on a high-speed chase through Ripley County, Indiana before he lost control and flipped his car, police said in the release.
The victim was transferred to Norton King's Daughters' Health Hospital in Madison, and has since recovered from his injuries.
