Louisville man faces life in prison for woman's 2022 murder in front of their 10-year-old son

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man found guilty of murdering the mother of his child more than two years ago could be sentenced to life in prison.

A jury convicted Christopher Gordon this week on several charges including murder, assault, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon in connection with the case from February 2022. That's when Gordon shot 38-year-old Angelica James multiple times at a home in the 4100 block of Quiet Way.

Investigators said Gordon also shot their 10-year-old son in the hand and wrist, and the child's back was also grazed by a bullet.

After the shooting, police said Gordon took off in a Ford F-150 with his 2-year-old. An Amber Alert was briefly issued, but the child was eventually found safe. The vehicle Gordon was driving was found abandoned on Taylor Boulevard.

Gordon was arrested near Pleasure Ridge Park after a 4-day manhunt.

Court records show Gordon has a history of violence, a series of guilty pleas and leaving prison long before serving his sentences. His criminal history shows he has pleaded guilty to domestic violence, assault and reckless homicide.

Gordon was on Misdemeanor Intensive Probation, a heightened level of probation, on the day of the murder.

The jury has recommended that Gordon serve life in prison for the murder and assault charges, as well as a charge of being a persistent felony offender.

Gordon's formal sentencing hearing is scheduled for Aug. 5.
