LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 19-year-old woman charged for the death of a 1-year-old girl is scheduled to be in court Friday morning.
Louisville Metro Police said the toddler overdosed on fentanyl while in the woman's care.
"Unfortunately, this is an extremely sad situation," Jefferson County District Court Judge Hon. Kristina Garvey told Saniya Frazier while explaining her charges during her arraignment last week.
Frazier was charged with manslaughter after the 1-year-old overdosed on fentanyl. The girl was taken to the hospital where she later died.
"Not only did Ms. Frazier have things that she shouldn't have had in her possession to begin with, but the allegations allege that they were left in an area that were able to be gotten to by a 1-year-old," Garvey said.
Police said Frazier told first responders that the child had access to her purse that contained five pills, and there was only one pill left after finding the child unresponsive.
Police said the pills were laced with fentanyl.
"Those circumstances make Ms. Frazier a danger," said Garvey.
Frazier is being held on a $250,000 bond. Manslaughter is a Class C felony. She could face up to 10 years in prison.
