LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man was arrested Saturday after allegedly driving his car into a police cruiser at Veteran's Memorial Park.
According to an arrest citation, Jeffersontown Police officers were investigating an unrelated crash at the park around 8 p.m. when a second crash occurred.
Giovanni Salmeron was trying to leave the park but traffic was blocked by a unoccupied Jeffersontown Police cruiser. Salmeron ran into the police cruiser and then backed up, ripping off his front bumper in the process, according to court documents.
There were two young boys in the car with Salmeron, both under the age of 12, according to the citation. Neither of them were hurt.
Salmeron had a very strong odor of alcohol on his breath and had poor balance.
Police also noted that the incident happened on a day when hundreds of people were in the park, putting them all in danger.
Salmeron was arraigned Monday on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, two counts of wanton endangerment, failure to maintain insurance, expired tags, and failure to produce an insurance card.
The judge entered a not guilty plea on Salmeron's behalf and released him on his own recognizance. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 18.
