LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 62-year-old man was found guilty of 19 sex-related charges against children, according to Jefferson County's Commonwealth's Attorney.
John Wayne Taylor was found guilty by a Jefferson County jury on Aug. 1 of multiple felony charges. He was convicted on three counts of sodomy in the first degree, one count of rape in the first degree, three counts of promoting a sexual performance of a minor and six counts of sex abuse, among other charges.
According to a news release, Taylor was found guilty after the jury heard witness testimony and evidence of incidents in 2021. Taylor sexually assaulted three minors, aged 13, 12 and 10. Prosecutors said Taylor was romantically involved with the children's mother, and he would babysit them while she worked.
"Mr. Gordon was found to have committed some of the most heinous acts against innocent young people, children whom he trusted to care for," Jefferson County Commonwealth’s Attorney Gerina D. Whethers, said in a news release. "He has no business being in our community any longer. We appreciate that the jury not only found him responsible for the abuse of these children, but also recommended a sentence that will keep him away from any children for a very long time."
According to a news release, the jury recommended a sentence of 35 years in prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Sept. 3.
