LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man drove past his residence Wednesday afternoon as police were conducting a drug raid, then took off, ramming two unmarked vehicles and injuring two Shively police detectives as he tried to get away.Â
It happened around 1 p.m. Dec. 17 in the 6700 block of Thalia Avenue in Louisville's Southside neighborhood, according to court documents. Police were serving a search warrant at the home of suspected drug dealer Harold Bullard Jr. Investigators at the scene noticed Bullard driving a white 2017 Dodge Durango in the area. He continued driving north on Kenwood when he saw police in his yard, according to the arrest citation.
Detectives and K-9 officers tried to stop Bullard's vehicle near Kenwood Drive and 3rd Street. Since Bullard has a known history of running from and resisting police, detectives attempted to box in his vehicle to keep him from fleeing. But Bullard "immediately rammed" an unmarked vehicle that had its emergency equipment activated. He then reversed and rammed the same vehicle again.
Two detectives inside the vehicle that was hit complained of pain.Â
After ramming the detective's vehicle, Bullard continued to flee as police broke off the chase because of civilians in the area. The Durango was spotted a short time later in a driveway in the 300 block of Downes Terrace. Police used K-9s to track Bullard, and he was located in the 400 block of Downes Lane, along with his "girlfriend," 25-year-old Brianna Bryant.Â
During a search of Bullard's home, detectives reported finding "a trafficking amount of marijuana," a large sum of cash and "four to five pounds of methamphetamine, possibly more." Three handguns were also seized.Â
Bullard and Bryant were arrested and booked into Louisville Metro Corrections.Â
Bullard, 55, was already wanted on felony warrants for escape, fleeing police and drug charges. His new charges include fleeing or evading police, two counts of wanton endangerment of a police officer, trafficking in a controlled substance (enhanced), trafficking in marijuana and three counts of a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.Â
Bryant was already facing charges of tampering with a prison monitoring device, escape and theft by failing to make required disposition of property. Her bond was set at $7,500 cash. She is due in arraignment court Dec. 19.Â
