LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Shepherdsville man who accepted a plea agreement in connection with the murder of a Bullitt County man has learned his sentence.
Simmons was sentenced to 12 years in prison, 10 years for theft and two years for being a persistent felon.
Bradlee Simmons pleaded guilty in November in connection with the death of Kevin Watts. Under the plea agreement, prosecutors recommended the murder charge be dismissed. Simmons was also required to make a statement about the death of Watts, including the involvement of his co-defendant, Richard Reno.
According to authorities, Simmons and Reno were driving a white pickup truck when they stole a trailer belonging to Watts, who tried to follow Reno and Simmons as they drove away and ended up being involved in a crash with their truck.
At that point, one of the suspects shot Watts in the upper left leg, according to police. He died at the scene from his injuries.
