LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A New Albany, Indiana, woman was arrested for allegedly helping a deputy shooting suspect get from her apartment to Louisville.

Indiana State Police said in an update Friday that 35-year-old Victoria Howard was arrested for assisting Austin Schepers in his escape to Louisville.

ISP said Orange County Sheriff's Deputy Zac Andry was shot four times during a traffic stop on Highway 150 near West Baden at 12:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, by Schepers.

Andry noticed a car pulled over on the side of the highway. During the stop, Andry suspected criminal activity and asked Schepers to step out of the car. That's when ISP said Schepers shot Andry and sped off.

ISP said Andry underwent surgery not long after the shooting and was reported in critical condition, but stable.

According to ISP, Andry's condition remains the same — critical but stable — at UofL Hospital downtown.

Police said detectives believe Howard knew that Schepers had allegedly shot a police officer and that he was wanted by law enforcement.

Howard allegedly used Lyft to help Schepers get a ride from her apartment in New Albany to Craig Street in Louisville.

There was an hours-long standoff in New Albany on Jan. 3 after police believed Schepers could've been there, but no one was found at the residence.

Schepers was shot and killed by police in Louisville on Saturday, Jan. 4, after an extensive manhunt.

ISP said police located Schepers in the 3700 block of Wheeler Avenue, off Taylor Boulevard in Louisville, in the backyard of a home. Louisville Metro Police Chief Paul Humphrey said Schepers shot at officers. Multiple LMPD officers and U.S. Marshals deputies returned fire.

Howard was arrested Thursday, Jan. 9, in Clarksville, Indiana, and was taken to the Floyd County Jail.

She's been initially charged with assisting a criminal and false informing. Police said there could be additional people arrested for assisting Schepers while he was wanted by police.

Howard's initial hearing has been set for 11 a.m. Monday.
