LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville police have stepped up patrols in busy areas such as the Highlands and Waterfront Park in response to large, disruptive groups, mostly juveniles, gathering in those areas in recent weeks.

On March 21, Louisville Metro Police officers responded to multiple incidents at Waterfront Park. In one incident, a gun was confiscated and a juvenile was cited and released to their guardian.

WDRB filed an Open Records Request to obtain the surveillance video from Waterfront Park. The video from the park's red lot shows a large group of teens gathering at the base of Big Four Bridge, and LMPD's response that night. You can see several police cars already on scene with more arriving.

LMPD said the increase in patrols at the Big Four Bridge and in the Highlands has already made a difference. During the first week of spring break in Louisville, a juvenile was cited near the Big Four Bridge, and police issued 21 citations and made two arrests in the Bardstown Road area.

Earlier this month, LMPD announced a Summer Task Force of 27 officers who will rotate, monitoring the busiest areas. At least 13 officers will be working seven days a week from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m.

LMPD said it has received positive feedback about the increased police presence.
