LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The murder trial of a Bullitt County woman accused of killing her two young sons in their home will begin later this year.
Tiffanie Lucas was indicted in December on two counts of murder after police said a neighbor found her sons — 6-year-old Maurice Baker Jr. and 9-year-old Jayden Howard — shot inside Lucas' home on Bentwood Drive in Bullitt County on Nov. 8, 2023.
Both boys were rushed with a police escort to Norton Children's Hospital in downtown Louisville, where they died from their injuries.
In court Monday, Judge Rodney Burress set the trial date for 9 a.m. Dec. 17. Bullitt County Commonwealth's Attorney Bailey Taylor and Lucas' attorney both expect it to last four or five days.
Lucas' attorney declined to speak on camera about the case. Taylor said neither side has discussed plea agreements but he wouldn't rule it out.
Lucas pleaded not guilty to two charges of capital murder in December. At the time, Burress kept Lucas' $2 million bond in place at Taylor's request.
At the December hearing, Taylor said that if someone is found guilty of such a charge, punishment could range from life in prison to life in prison without the possibility of parole to the death penalty.
"She's looking at — of course, as a capital offense — possibly the death penalty, but we have not notified the defense that we were seeking the death penalty at this time," Taylor said Monday, adding that he isn't ready to say if they'll do so right now.
