LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The University of Kentucky is ramping up security on campus.

UK Police Chief Joe Monroe said the department is increasing safety and security efforts beginning this weekend.

Monroe said there will be an additional team of officers on bikes, on foot, and in cruisers patrolling from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Police patrols will be increased on North Campus and near residence halls.

This comes after a shooting near campus early Sunday morning and three sexual assaults reported in September alone, and one in October.

"This is not going to be tolerated around our campus or on our campus," Monroe said during a news conference on Friday. "We're taking a more aggressive approach than we ever have."

Campus police will also install more cameras, Blue Emergency Towers and visible lighting throughout campus.

Students can request request a FREE SAFECATS safety escort or coordinate after-hours, on-demand bus service during the fall and spring semesters by calling 859-257-SAFE (7233).
