LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The long-vacant Urban Government Center in Louisville is finally coming down, marking a major step forward in the long-delayed effort to transform the aging Paristown site.
Crews spent Monday tearing down the old government building, kicking up dust as the walls came down.
Heavy equipment moved across the Barret Avenue property, pulling apart what remained of the Paristown Point structure that once housed several Metro offices.
The site has been vacant and overgrown since 2016, becoming a longstanding concern for neighbors and a symbol of stalled redevelopment.
City officials say clearing the property is a key step toward a planned $250 million mixed-use project that could bring a hotel, apartments, condos and office space to the neighborhood.
Final plans are still being completed. The demolition is expected to continue through the week.
