LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Drivers who use the Sherman Minton Bridge have another upcoming closure to deal with starting the week after the Kentucky Derby.Â
The eastbound lanes of I-64 are scheduled to close at or after 3 p.m. on Monday, May 6, according to a news release from the Sherman Minton Renewal team. The lanes will remain closed until 5 a.m. Monday, May 20.
The closure will allow crews to finish concrete work on the lower bridge approaches.
Through traffic that bypasses I-265 will be unable to cross the bridge. Drivers will need to exit onto West 5th Street in New Albany and use the surface streets to access I-64 westbound, then continue to I-265 and the alternate route.
Westbound I-64 traffic will be allowed to cross the bridge. All westbound ramps, including I-264 to I-64 westbound, will remain open and accessible.
The work is part of the ongoing Sherman Minton Renewal Project, which involves painting and rehabilitating the 61-year-old bridge. The project is anticipated to give the six-lane, double-decked bridge up to 30 more years of life.
