LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Carroll County Schools will be closed for the remainder of the week because of illnesses among students and staff.
In a statement Wednesday, a spokesperson for the district said there are a number of illnesses effecting the district, including RSV, upper respiratory infections, COVID-19 and general colds.
School was already scheduled to be closed on Monday, Sept. 2, for the Labor Day holiday.
Students will return to school Tuesday.
"We certainly appreciate everyone's efforts in trying to keep our system up and running smoothly, but we have come to the point that it is not sustainable for everyone's health and safety," Superintendent Casey Jaynes said in an emailed statement, encouraging students and staff to take the long weekend to "get well and rested."
The district originally said athletic events already scheduled will still be held because they cannot be rescheduled. But just before 9 p.m. said the varsity football game scheduled for this Friday against Kentucky Country Day has been canceled.
The district said student-athletes should have "limited access to inside areas such as locker rooms and the gym."
