SELLERSBURG, Ind. (WDRB) -- Silver Creek High School students return to school on Thursday, but some new classrooms won't be finished in time.
School officials don't think it will cause any problems, and ask for patience until fall when the new facilities are expected to be completed.
Crews are finishing up work on a new performing arts center, new classroom space, office space and a cafeteria.
For the first day of the 2024-2025 school year, students will return to the classrooms they left last year instead of a new school building. The school board unanimously approved the $48 million project last year.
Silver Creek Schools superintendent Chad Briggs said there has been a need for a new facility for awhile.
"It's been a long time coming, we've needed to have these renovations done for three years now," Briggs said. "And we always say that, you know, we have an excellent education experience for our kids going on now. And now we're going to have the facilities to match that."
Briggs said there will be some very slight traffic changes because of the construction to be aware of during pick up and drop off, but none that they're concerned about.
He said construction is actually ahead of schedule, and looks forward to October when students and families will be able to take a look inside.
