LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Jefferson Community and Technical College recognized 84 students at its annual African American Students of Excellence Awards.
The event highlights high-performing students who have completed at least 30 credit hours and earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Now in its 45th year, the program is organized by Jefferson’s Black Affairs Advocacy Committee and remains one of the school’s signature traditions, honoring both scholarship and campus leadership.
In addition to student recognition, the college presented its Community Service Award to Elmer Lucille Allen for her decades of impact in Louisville and beyond.
Allen broke barriers as the first African American chemist at Brown-Forman and has spent years supporting arts, education and youth initiatives.
Her work includes co-founding the Kentucky Coalition of African American Arts and promoting inclusive opportunities in community programs.
Her contributions have earned statewide recognition, including the Governor’s Award in the Arts, and even a Louisville street named in her honor.
The annual event highlights both student achievement and community leadership.
