LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky Department of Education is asking for public comment on the state's request to extend federal funding.

The funding is available from the Every Student Succeeds Act. According to a news release, the request for waiver will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Education for COVID-19 pandemic related issues.

It would give school districts community learning centers and community day programs, long-term secure juvenile facilities and the youth development centers more time to spend down their funds, according to news release.

The full waiver can be accessed by clicking here. The public comment period goes from Jan. 17-23.

Comments may be emailed to kdecommunications@education.ky.gov or submitted to Todd Allen, General Counsel, Kentucky Department of Education, 300 Sower Blvd, 5th Floor, Frankfort, KY 40601. Comments also may be submitted via fax at 502-564-9321.
