LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Thousands of backpacks were given away in the Algonquin neighborhood on Saturday.
The 2nd annual Hammer's Great Backpack Giveaway was held at McFerran Prep Academy on South 7th Street. Local attorney Darryl Isaacs teamed up with Stock Yards Bank to give away 3,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to help families prepare for the upcoming school year.
Organizers wanted to help students get off to a good start this school year.
"It just shows there is a need, you want the kids to do well," Isaacs said. "I grew up in Louisville, it's been good to me, it's just natural to help people."
Four bicycles were also given away during the event.
