Local attorney Darryl Isaacs teamed up with Stock Yards Bank to give away 3,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to help families prepare for the upcoming school year.
A backpack giveaway took place on Saturday afternoon at the Boys and Girls Club in Shawnee.
The student was isolated and a gun was found in their backpack.
Program leaders said one in eight American children may be struggling with access to food.
A donation of $150 can feed a child for an entire school year.
Local churches and organizations are handing out supplies for those in need.
