LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Teachers and students full of enthusiasm filled the halls of Oldham County Schools as they welcomed students back to the classroom on Wednesday.

The morning started with early car riders, all eager and anxious to start their day.

Buddy the Bear made a special appearance at Buckner Elementary School, greeting each student with hugs and high-fives.

Buckner Elementary was the first school back in session for the district. Teachers are focusing specifically on reading curriculum this school year.

Car and bus riders at Oldham County Middle School experienced some traffic delays on the first day, which was anticipated by school staff.

Oldham County Middle School was eager to offer a new class in their new STEM classroom space called Design Thinking.

Students will work together in teams to solve problems, some of which may require a 3D printer. Kyle Thomas, Oldham County Middle School counselor, was looking forward to giving students a hands-on learning experience.

"This class will give kids the opportunity to jump into science technology, engineering, those type of things," Thomas said.

Oldham County Schools are still hiring for the school year, offering a stipend if hired before Nov. 1.

Both full-time and part-time employees can qualify for the stipend. You can search for positions and apply here.
