LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Heightened security measures are in place at Seneca High School after officials were made aware of a threat on social media.

An email from JCPS spokesperson Mark Hebert said the school's principal sent a message to families letting them know about the threat and the investigation. Hebert said the same message was sent to families of students at Binet School, which is in the back part of Seneca's building.

Below is the text of the message from Principal Michael Guy:

Dear Seneca High School families,

The safety and security of our students and staff  is always our top priority. Whenever there is a situation that impacts our school community, you will hear about it from me. I’m writing to ensure you have the most accurate information about a situation impacting our school.

We are aware of a social media post referencing a threat against our school. Additional security will be at the school this morning while JCPS Police and LMPD investigate the threat.

If it is determined that a student posted the threat, they will be disciplined in accordance with the Student Support and Behavior Intervention Handbook and could face criminal charges.

We encourage you to use this as an opportunity to talk with your student about what they post online and remind them of the seriousness of the words they choose and the images they share. If you or your student sees or hears anything that concerns you for the safety of our school community, please share with a staff member immediately.

We will always err on the side of caution when it comes to the safety of our school community.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me through the school

Michael Guy
