LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new study shows high turnover and not enough pay for teachers in Louisville's early childhood classrooms.
Metro United Way said 47% of early childhood teachers left their centers in the past year.
Another 22% said they probably, or definitely, will not be in the field in three years.
The survey is part of the organization's Early Learning Workforce Study in Louisville. It also shows 11% of early childhood teachers reported having to work another job just to make ends meet.
Researchers got data directly from child care providers. Right now, more than 19,000 children are in licensed early child care centers in Louisville.
