LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- FBI Louisville is warning people of an increase in violent online networks.
The FBI said networks like 764 target and exploit minors and others into producing or live streaming acts of self-harm, animal cruelty, sexual explicitness or suicide. The networks use threats, blackmail and manipulation to extort or coerce victims.
The FBI said some of the people within the networks are motivated by a desire to cause fear or chaos.
Possible indicators or warning signs that someone has fallen victim include behavior changes, changes in appearances, dropping out of activities and a new online friend the victim may say they're scared of, among other signs.
Parents should monitor their kids online activity and discuss risks about sharing personal information or photos.
